An observation network in the council area has been organized to monitor the environment of one of the downstream largest basins toward the Po valley-Liguria network, i.e. the areas of Spigno and Bormida. The system is not just to alert about flash floods or other strictly local events, but also to monitor for example the effects of abundant rainfall during the winter semester which can occur over the plain areas bordering southern Piedmont. The rain gauges are certified by UNI (No. 11452:2012) and are respectively located at Piano Soprano in the Bormida district at 520m a.s.l. or the measurements of the main rainfalls, at Carretto at 480m a.s.l., Ferrere at 380 a.s.l. and Camponuovo at 540 a.s.l. ( villages in the Cairo Montenotte area) to check hydrographic areas of lower impact.
